SlowTalk: Taking Courage

We live in a world where many politicians do not show the necessary will to act in the best interest of the people and many citizens blindly follow the rules, irrespective of whether they make sense or not. That this is not in the best interest of us as individuals, neither for our collective societies is being demonstrated (!) right now in the country of Iran and the state of Minnesota. People are saying “Enough is enough” and put themselves in harms way to demand change. For some, these are courageous actions, others consider it folly, because the consequences appear too severe.

However, history is full of stories of individuals who have taken a stand agains injustice and were able to bring about the necessary changes to make this world more liveable. Think of Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks who triggered the civil rights movement in America, or Congressman John Lewis, who was convinced that it is necessary to “cause good trouble”.

What does it take to stand up and speak about any issue that concerns you. Whether at work with your boss or colleagues, at home with your partner or relative, in public with a fellow citizen over issues of political fragmentation, European defense, global warming, etc.

Courage comes from the latin cor, meaning “heart". So how about a heartfelt conversation about “courage”.
